PRP Q & A
What is PRP?
PRP is derived from a sample of your blood that’s spun down in a centrifuge to separate the white and red blood cells, plasma, and platelets.
The isolated platelets and plasma contain numerous growth factors that have extraordinary healing properties. At Metroplex Dermatology, PRP skin and hair applications powerfully rejuvenate your complexion and help restore thinning hair.
How does PRP enhance your skin?
When injected into your skin, PRP uses its amazing healing power to initiate greater collagen production and stimulate cell turnover.
Together, these actions mean the internal structures of your skin become stronger — resulting in a smoother, more evenly toned complexion.
How does PRP therapy help with hair loss?
The healing and regenerative properties of PRP increase follicle density and stimulate hair growth. Dr. Hensley's team injects PRP directly into areas of your scalp with thinning hair to promote naturally thick, lustrous hair.
You benefit from multiple treatment sessions, scheduled about 2-3 months apart.
Am I a candidate for PRP therapy?
If you have skin complaints like premature lines and wrinkles, sun damage, or uneven skin tone, PRP therapy can help. PRP also reduces the appearance of acne scars or large pores.
People with hair thinning that occurs along the top of the head respond best to PRP therapy. While anyone with hair loss can benefit, those with early hair loss often respond the best.
Dr. Hensley's team will evaluate your skin or thinning hair to determine if PRP is right for you.
What should I expect with PRP treatments?
PRP therapy uses your own blood, so there’s virtually no risk of an adverse reaction. It’s a natural way to restore a youthful complexion and to reform thinning hair.
During your appointment, a technician draws a sample of your blood. It then takes about 15 minutes to isolate the platelets and prepare the PRP for injection.
Dr. Hensley's team uses very fine needles to inject the PRP into your face or scalp. He applies a topical numbing gel prior to treatment to make the procedure as comfortable as possible. After your treatment, you may have some redness and swelling that resolves within a day or two.
