Hair Transplant

1. Who is a good candidate for a hair transplant?

◦ Ideal candidates are those with pattern baldness, thinning hair, or hair loss due to trauma, burns, or scarring. Candidates should have stable hair loss patterns.

◦ Dr. Shah has experience transplanting all hair types regardless of ethnicity.

2. Can you treat Scarring Hair Loss?

• Yes! If the process of scarring has resolved and is not progressive, you can get great results with hair transplantation.

3. What happens during a hair transplant?

◦ During the procedure, hair follicles are harvested from donor areas (typically the back of the scalp) and transplanted to areas of thinning or balding. The two main techniques are:

FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction): Individual hair follicles are directly removed from the donor area and transplanted.

FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation): A strip of scalp is removed, and individual follicular units are extracted and transplanted.

◦ The procedure can take several hours, and the transplanted hair begins to grow naturally over several months.

Scarless Upper/Lower Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Procedures)

Scarless Upper Blepharoplasty

  1. What can upper blepharoplasty correct?

    • Upper blepharoplasty addresses excess skin and fat on the upper eyelids, which can cause drooping and make the eyes look tired or aged. By removing excess tissue, it can restore a refreshed and youthful appearance, and in some cases help with vision.

  2. How is the procedure scarless?

    • This is as much an art as it is a science! Dr. Shah makes an incision along the natural crease of the upper eyelid so the incision is hidden. Excess skin and/or fat is removed, and the incision is closed with fine sutures. The scar typically heals within the natural crease, making it nearly invisible over time.

  3. Who is a candidate for an upper blepharoplasty?

      • Candidates for upper blepharoplasty are those with excess skin or fat deposits causing droopy eyelids or obstructed vision.

Scarless Lower Blepharoplasty

  1. What can lower blepharoplasty correct?

    • Lower blepharoplasty is used to remove or reposition fat and excess skin in the lower eyelid. It can correct under-eye bags, puffiness, and wrinkles, giving the area a smoother, youthful, and more refreshed appearance.

  2. How is the procedures scarless?

    • Dr. Shah performs his surgery from behind the lower eyelid (a transconjunctival approach) to access and remove or reposition fat. Once completed, no one will see the incision since it is entirely behind the eyelid.

  3. Who is a candidate for a lower blepharoplasty?

    • Ideal candidates are those with puffiness or bags under the eyes, wrinkles, or loose skin that gives a tired appearance.

Minimally Invasive Lifting Procedures (Face/Neck) – “Mini Face/Neck lift”

For those not interested in an invasive deep plane facelift, there are several minimally invasive in-office procedures that are less traumatic, have less downtime, and can yield excellent results through similar hidden incisions around the ear.

Facelift

  1. What happens during the procedure?

    • A traditional facelift involves lifting and tightening the deeper facial tissues and removing excess skin. The surgeon makes incisions typically around the hairline and ears, repositioning the underlying muscles and tissues for a smoother, younger-looking appearance.

  2. Who is a candidate and what are the benefits of a facelift?

    • Good candidates will have noticeable signs of facial aging, such as sagging skin, deep wrinkles, and jowls. Benefits include a long-lasting, dramatic improvement in facial contours.

Neck Lift

  1. Who is a good candidate for a neck lift?

    • Candidates are those with loose skin, fat deposits, or muscle banding in the neck that cause sagging or a “turkey neck” appearance. Individuals in good health who wish to improve the appearance of their neck are ideal for this procedure.

  2. What happens during a neck lift?

    • During a neck lift, incisions are made either behind the ears and/or under the chin. The surgeon then removes or repositions excess fat and skin while tightening the underlying muscles, creating a smoother and more defined neck profile.

Browlift

  1. What is browlift surgery, and are there different types?

    • A browlift is designed to raise drooping eyebrows and reduce forehead lines for a more youthful, awake appearance. There are different types of browlifts, all of which use hidden incisions placed along the hairline or within the scalp. Please schedule a consultation so that we can develop a custom plan for you based on your facial anatomy and goals.

  2. What happens during browlift surgery?

    • The surgeon makes hidden incisions along the hairline or within the scalp, lifts the underlying tissues, and removes any excess tissue, creating a smoother forehead and elevated brows.

CO2 Laser Resurfacing (Deka CO2 Fractional Laser)

  1. What is CO2 laser resurfacing?

    • CO2 laser resurfacing is an ablative laser treatment that removes the outer layers of damaged skin to reveal smoother, younger-looking skin. It stimulates collagen production, improving the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and sun damage.

    • This is the most tried and true method for eliminating wrinkles and crepey skin.

  2. What happens during the procedure?

    • In our office we have the Deka CO2 laser which delivers fractional laser beams to the skin, targeting damaged areas while leaving surrounding tissue intact. This fractional approach allows for faster healing and fewer side effects while giving dramatic results.
